There is evidence about the effective role of Roma women in promoting and leading change in the Roma community through education. The overcoming of stereotypes about Roma women underlines some of the contributions.

La educación en la antigua roma era muy importante. Sin embargo, estava lejos de ser universal. En cuanto a las mujeres su misión era contraer matrimonio y tener hijos. Entre las mujeres nobles delegavan el trabajo de cuidar a los hijos a las nodrizas.
En cuanto a los estereotipos de la mujer, era vista como una figura maternal y cariñosa cuyo principal papel era augmentar la familia. Aún así, las mujeres romanas no eran necessariamente sumisas. En algunos casos podian ser influyentes en la política y la sociedad, como es el caso de Livia Drusila, la esposa del emperador Augusto.
