Explanation of the Post

he existence of the Parental Alienation Syndrome is not scientifically validated. Besides scientific articles demonstrating this, there are explicit declarations of scientific societies: “The American Psychological Association believes that all mental health practitioners as well as law enforcement officials and the courts must take any reports of domestic violence in divorce and child custody cases seriously. An APA 1996 Presidential Task Force on Violence and the Family noted the lack of data to support so-called “parental alienation syndrome”, and raised concern about the term’s use. However, we have no official position on the purported syndrome.”. Moreover, it states that “The syndrome has been dismissed by the American Psychiatric Association, American Psychological Association, and American Medical Association as lacking supporting empirical or clinical evidence and it is not included in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders or the International Classification of Diseases”.

  1. Hello: sorry, but you are wrong.

The 1996 statement of one of the 56 APA divisións ends: “However, we have no official position on the purported syndrome.”, and not that you say (“Moreover, it states that …”) (https://www.apa.org/news/press/releases/2008/01/pas-syndrome).

Now (2021), you can read by the APA theses papers in theirs journals (one of them J. Meier against)

    • Thanks for sharing the articles, one of them indexed in JCR. As you can see, it doesn´t say that it exists but it complains that it is not acknowledged.

      • Abstract of that article: "Despite affecting millions of families around the world, parental alienation...", So yeah, it says it does exist

“Further, it is consistent with Gardner’s (1998) recommendation that high conflict cases of parental alienation classed as moderate or severe require a joint effort between the court and therapist/s. It would seem that despite the controversy that developed as a consequence of some of Gardner’s views (e.g. Houchin et al., 2012; Waldron and Joanis, 1996; Warshak, 2001), his suggestion of a combined approach to resolution
of the problem is a sound one.”
