Social networks and technologies have changed the way we look at life, they have made us discover many efficient resources that help us to disseminate information immediately and also to get it, but it is also a double-edged sword for people’s privacy. Nowadays, there are more and more complaints about disrespecting people’s sexual privacy and disseminating private material on social networks. Recording your partner without permission while having intimate and sexual relations is a crime and a form of intimate partner violence. The consequences of non-consensual porn are wide, complicated and numerous.

Research by the National Campaign to Prevent Unplanned Pregnancy (2008) showed that 46%-48% of young adults believe it is common for sexually explicit photos to be shared with people. This study shows that there is content on social media that can leak out of our bodies and our privacy, can violate it. As a result of this trend, “revenge porn” has emerged (Citron & Franks, 2014). This type of pornography is defined as the uploading or sharing of sexually explicit material without a partner’s consent, for the purpose of humiliation or intimidation, and falls into the category of non-consensual pornography. Abusers have a specific profile and seek to get something from their victims, so it is important to recognise their profile in order to be forewarned. They seek to gain economic control (ABC7, 2017), to coerce or threaten partners into confessing to false allegations or to engage in unwanted sexual acts. Citron and Franks state that abusers also use non-consensual porn against their partners when they try to leave the relationship (2014). For this reason, prevention is important. In the event that a crime of non-consensual pornography occurs, it must be brought to justice because only we are free to decide with whom to share this information, since our body is ours and belongs to us and if someone makes decisions about it, it must be us.
